Visual Review
I think I have achieved what I have set out to do for my first two photoshoots. I have followed the narrative of portraying a bustling vibrant shopping environment, that allows the viewer to experience the sensations of the products, the shops and the shoppers.
In photoshoot one this narrative is pushed by having the photos being taken in a market with most of the photos of the shoppers and the food. Also the images have vibrant colours, making the food and environment appear more enjoyable and appealing to the viewer. I used a high f value to allow the viewer to see the whole expanse of the market, from the crowd to the stalls, all on full display. A great example of this is the photo of the man taking a photo of their food. The high f value allows the viewer to see the food he is photographing, the subject, the crowd behind him and the shops the people are wandering around. This allows the viewer to experience the bustling, almost overwhelming nature of the huge market.
In photoshoot two on the other hand I tried to zoom in and focus on the individual and the brand instead of the broader picture of shopping. To do this I focused more on pictures of the individual and photos on just the brand, or even both. To achieve this I isolated the pictures of the logos and people, allowing the viewer to focus purely on the subject with little to no distractions. I further emphasised the subject by capturing vibrant colours, drawing the viewer’s eyes. A great example of this is the child running along the street, carrying a large Lego bag. The viewer is immediately drawn to him as he is wearing a bright blue jacket and is holding a bright yellow bag. These vibrant colours make him stand out from the crowd around him, isolating him from then rest of the environment. These bright, vibrant colours also help implement a positive feel to the image, linking to the simple happiness of the child who has just received their favourite toy.
As I have only pushed the narrative of day shopping, for my third photoshoot I have decided to try convey both day and night shopping to convey the various other sides of shopping and the different experience each one has to offer. To achieve this I am going to take one half of the photoshoot on a bright, sunny day and the other half during the darkness of night to highlight the contrasts between the two styles of shopping. Overall, I want to push my feel of pure, natural photography that feels like real life.
